Zelenograd vs. MD: 32-10 / Oct 17th |

This past Saturday we played against Doverie in Zelenograd, on the so called ELION pitch, if it could be called that much! Temperature around 5 degrees, the wind not helping much and after extensive rain the night before, the "pitch" was one big mud bath, and the fear of drowning ever present.

In an approvement to our previous games this Autumn League, we manage to contain Doverie during the beginning of the game when they came out all guns blazing. Their forward pack being far heavier (and I mean far heavier!) than ours, they manage to dominate the scrums and rucks, which placed us on the backfoot, but due to some clever kicking by Sasha Tsvetkov and a good intercept try by new boy Ed, we managed to be level at 10 - 10 at half time.
This did not however please Doverie too much, and with extensive help of their referee (which included 2 yellow cards to the Dragons, including the ever gentle Eric, and nearly a third to little Johnie), and through their old tactics of upsetting our players by continuous stamping, hitting, shoulder charging and whatever means possible, resulted in them slowing getting the "momentum" during the second half.
Final score 10 - 32 in their favour, but we indeed look forward to hosting them again on our field where revenge will be sweet! |
